Fellow Square Dancers,

There comes a time when our numbers can mean more than just gathering for good fellowship and our favored pastime of square dancing.

Right now, every passing minute of each day, there is a humanitarian crisis of epic proportions underway in the United States of America in Kerr County, Texas.

Our friends, the people and families of these ravaged areas need our numbers to help them salvage their lives from the destruction of the floods which struck them early on the morning of July 4th, 2025. More than a summers worth of rain fell overnight leading up to the Fourth of July, causing the river to swell significantly and turn into a deadly torrent.

The flooding led to significant casualties and damage, particularly in Kerr County, where at least 107 people died. Among the victims were dozens of children staying at Camp Mystic, a summer camp located along the rivers floodplain. The rapid rise of the Guadalupe River was attributed to the convergence of local storms with remnant moisture from Tropical Storm Barry, resulting in extremely high rainfall totals.

The damage done by this flood means every helping hand available will be needed for months to come. They are in need of all basic services and support.

I personally, along with your friends here at Grand Square International, ask you to act now and provide what assistance you can for those truly in need. We have a program underway that will tread in the footsteps of our significant efforts following Hurricane Katrina and Japan’s Earthquake and Tsunami.
